West Yorkshire Police have launched a murder investigation following a devastating house fire in Bradford that claimed the lives of a 29-year-old mother and her three young children, including a baby girl.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning, shortly after 2 a.m., at a residence on Westbury Road in the Westwood Park area.
Emergency services were called to the scene, where they found the 29-year-old woman, identified as Bryonie Gawith, who tragically died in the blaze.
Her three children—nine-year-old Denisty-mai, five-year-old Oscar, and one-year-old Aubree—were rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to their injuries.
The victims have been identified as Bryonie Gawith and her children Denisty-mai, Oscar, and Aubree. The community has been shocked, with neighbours and friends leaving floral tributes and heartfelt messages at the scene.
One poignant note read, “To Bryony [sic], Density [sic], Oscar + Aubree. We are thinking of you at this difficult time. Have fun in heaven. We will miss you.”
West Yorkshire Police confirmed the death of the mother at the scene and announced the tragic passing of the three children at the hospital. A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
He was found at the site of the fire with severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
Police believe the fire was started deliberately and have indicated that it is likely related to domestic circumstances.
As the investigation continues, the area around the semi-detached house remains cordoned off, with a strong police presence and forensic teams working at the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson from West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team described the incident as “absolutely devastating” and extended her condolences to the victims’ family and loved ones.
DCI Atkinson revealed that early inquiries suggest the fire was deliberately set, and while the investigation is still in its early stages, it appears to be a domestic-related incident.
She urged anyone in the area or anyone with CCTV or doorbell footage to provide information.
The community struggles to accept the loss as tributes continue to pour in for the family. One heartfelt message left at the scene read, “I love you all, all this world and more. I will miss you forever.
Miss you, my beautiful angels.”
