Paul Scholes’ daughter has shared an emotional message praising her father after the Manchester United legend opened up about life caring for his autistic son, Aiden.
Scholes, who has taken a step back from broadcasting and coaching duties, revealed on Stick to Football that he has reorganised his entire life around his 20-year-old son’s daily routine.

The 49-year-old said his main priority now is ensuring Aiden’s stability, explaining how the structured pattern of his son’s day defines his own professional commitments.
His daughter Alicia, 24, responded with heartfelt words on Instagram, commending her father’s strength and sacrifice in a message that quickly gained public attention.

“I’ve never known anyone hate talking about themselves more than you!” she wrote. “I can only imagine how hard it was to speak about Aidie and the reality of such a hard situation.”
Alicia reflected on her father’s dedication as both a parent and athlete, recalling how he managed to balance his Manchester United career with being present for his children.

“You always put being a dad first,” she said. “Growing up and realising how hard you worked every day while still being there for us is something I can’t even comprehend.”
The young athlete described her father as humble despite his global fame, saying: “If anyone met you, they wouldn’t have a clue the life you’ve lived they’d just see a genuinely kind, polite, caring person.”
Alicia went on to praise his focus on what truly matters: “You don’t care about people who don’t matter, and that’s the most valuable lesson I’ve learnt from you.”
She closed her post with touching words: “If Aidie could tell you himself, he’d say you really are the best dad in the world. We love you millions.”
Among those responding to her tribute was David Beckham, who commented: “Perfect words for your amazing dad @alicia.scholesx.”
The post resonated deeply with fans, highlighting a softer side of the former footballer rarely seen in public interviews.
Balancing Fatherhood and Fame
Scholes shares three children Arron, Alicia, and Aiden with his ex-wife, Claire. Despite their separation, the family has maintained a strong bond centred around Aiden’s wellbeing.
Speaking candidly on the podcast, Scholes revealed that his decision to step away from punditry was prompted by his son’s distress over routine disruptions.
“All the work I do now is around Aiden’s routines,” he said. “He has quite a strict schedule every single day, so I just decided everything I do must fit around him.”
Scholes recalled that his late-night Europa League work often clashed with Aiden’s set schedule, causing anxiety and agitation. “He’d get all agitated, biting and scratching,” he said.
The former midfielder admitted he had long known he’d need to make a change, saying: “I’d been thinking for years that I needed to stop, and the podcast came at the perfect time. It suits me well, really, it suits Aiden.”
Alicia and Arron Carry the Legacy Forward
Alicia has forged her own athletic path, playing professionally for London Pulse as a wing attack and centre.

She was instrumental in helping her team win their first Netball Super Cup in July 2025 and later represented England in the Vitality Netball Nations Cup earlier this year.
Scholes frequently attends her matches, supporting her courtside a continuation of the same dedication he showed as a father during his footballing years.
Meanwhile, Arron, 25, followed briefly in his father’s footsteps in semi-professional football before switching to fitness training.
Together with Alicia, he co-founded Scholes Gym in Oldham in 2022 a £500,000 state-of-the-art fitness facility focused on athletic performance and community training.

While Scholes’ football legacy remains iconic, his devotion as a father has become the defining story of his life. “Everything I do now is built around Aiden,” he said. “It’s not about me it’s about him.”
