A 33-year-old man was arrested by French police east of Paris on suspicion of murdering his 35-year-old wife and their four children in Meaux.
According to M10News, the shocking discovery was uncovered on Christmas Eve when worried friends and relatives called 911. When officers entered the ground-floor unit, they were met with a scene of severe violence. The mother was located in the corridor, while the children, ranging in age from nine months to ten years, were discovered in various rooms, all with severe knife wounds.
The suspect was taken into custody near his father’s residence in the neighboring town of Sevran. Although he has not been questioned extensively, he acknowledged understanding the reason for his detention. The motive behind the murder remains unknown.
This tragic event is not an isolated incident in France. In late November, a 41-year-old man admitted to killing his three daughters, aged four to 11, in Alfortville. A month earlier, a gendarme took the lives of his three daughters before ending his own in Vemars, northeast of the capital.
France grapples with a significant challenge of domestic violence, with an average of one woman being killed every three days. In 2022, there were 244,300 registered victims of domestic violence, predominantly women, marking a 15% increase from the previous year.
This surge is seen as a signal of heightened attention from law enforcement. Sadly, 118 women lost their lives to their partners or ex-partners in 2022.
This heartbreaking incident has sent shockwaves through the nation, emphasizing the urgent need for more decisive action to prevent domestic violence and safeguard its victims.
