A building resident revealed that the woman, who has not been publicly identified, was so fearful of her son that she had developed a secret knock to alert her neighbour if she was in danger.

The victim had an active order of protection against her son at the time of the incident, which occurred around 9 p.m. at her Shore Boulevard apartment.

Neighbours described a long history of tension and frequent arguments between the two. According to residents, it was common to hear yelling from the apartment.

One neighbour explained that when the woman’s secret knock was heard, she immediately called 911. The neighbour said she saw the woman going out the window moments later.

Emergency responders arrived to find the woman sprawled face down on the ground, suffering from severe injuries, including broken bones, a brain bleed, and internal bleeding.

Her daughter spoke to the media, confirming her mother had broken her femur, leg, shoulder, and multiple facial bones.

“She’s stabilised, but she needs multiple surgeries,” her daughter said. “The doctors can’t say how much recovery is possible yet, but she’s in critical condition.”

Police initially believed the son was still inside the apartment, armed with a knife, and attempted to make contact with him. However, by the time they entered, he had fled. Authorities are still seeking him for questioning.

The son, whose criminal record includes nearly 60 prior arrests, was last arrested in July for alleged shoplifting incidents at a nearby TJ Maxx. In one of those incidents, he reportedly threatened to strike an employee with brass knuckles.

A man identifying himself as the son of the victim told ‘The Post’ that he was miles away when the incident occurred and expressed shock over his mother’s fall. He denied being home at the time and appeared unaware of the severity of her injuries. When asked about the order of protection, he hung up.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities continuing to search for the son.
