Rumours have been circulating among insiders about the specifications of the Nintendo Switch 2, which they claim has been scheduled for release in 2022.

However, the widely reported delay of the Nintendo Switch 2 to early 2025 has left this year’s gaming calendar looking notably sparse, leading to extended speculation about the console’s features and release.

Rumours suggest that the Nintendo Switch 2 may boast an 8-inch LCD screen, offer backward compatibility, and feature a design that is mainly iterative over the original Switch.

Information leaked from an Nvidia hack in 2022 appears to have already unveiled some of the console’s technical specifications, a notion reaffirmed by sources at Nvidia who have also disclosed additional details about the console’s power and readiness for launch.

According to a source at Nvidia, the Nintendo Switch 2 has been fully developed since late 2022. Recent reports hint at a delay in the console’s launch to strengthen its software lineup, aligning with the notion that the hardware has been completed for some time.

Additionally, sources at Nvidia indicate that the Nintendo Switch 2 will come equipped with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory and utilize a Samsung 8nm processing node, a choice cited as cost-efficient and widely available for manufacturing.

Analyzing these specifications, Moore’s Law Is Dead speculates that the Nintendo Switch 2 could potentially outshine the Steam Deck and be comparable to an Xbox Series S in raw performance. However, he cautions that this is a best-case scenario, suggesting possible cost-cutting measures to maintain affordability.

If these speculations hold, it would lend credence to previous rumours suggesting that the Nintendo Switch 2 can run PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X titles, albeit potentially with some performance downgrades.

Contrarily, opinions have suggested that the Nintendo Switch 2 may be less powerful than the PlayStation 4 regarding technical specifications. However, this may not necessarily translate to inferior performance in real-world gaming experiences.

Despite the absence of official confirmation from Nintendo, these rumoured specifications align with the company’s tendency to prioritize affordability over sheer power in its console designs.
