Nigeria’s Anti-Terror Efforts: 86 Extremists Neutralized, 101 Apprehended, and 21 Hostages Freed in Recent Military Operations
Nigeria’s ongoing struggle against terrorism sees active involvement from its forces, with citizens playing a crucial role. The recent announcement by the Director of Defence Media Operations revealed significant successes, as the Nigerian army eliminated 86 terrorists and apprehended 101 others.
Major General Edward Buba reported that troops also made arrests related to oil theft and successfully rescued 21 kidnapped hostages in their recent operations
Major General Buba, speaking to journalists in Abuja, emphasized the military’s unchanged objectives for 2024: to locate and eliminate terrorists wherever they hide. He called upon citizens to contribute information, assuring that Nigerian forces would promptly act on any provided leads, highlighting the collaborative effort required in addressing the complex security challenges faced by the nation.
Nigeria grapples with a multifaceted security crisis involving militant groups and local militia, commonly known as bandits, causing widespread fear among residents. The enduring jihadist insurgency in the northeast, spanning 14 years, has resulted in the tragic loss of approximately 40,000 lives and forced over two million people to flee their homes, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
