Nigerian Lawyer Working as Caregiver Collapses and Dies in the UK”
Chidimma Susan Ezenyili, known as Suzy, tragically collapsed while on duty in Bishop’s Stratford, United Kingdom, on February 2022. Despite her husband Friday’s efforts, who drove her to work despite her feeling unwell, Suzy passed away two days later.
Originally a lawyer in Nigeria, Suzy and her husband moved to the UK in August 2023 on sponsorship visas, hoping to provide a better life for their three-year-old daughter, Mandy. Suzy had been caring for 86-year-old Ian Hale for the past five months.
Ian Hale’s daughter, Catherine Segal, recounted the harrowing incident, mentioning how the community rallied to help when Suzy collapsed. Despite immediate assistance from GoodSAM first responders and medical professionals, Suzy was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where doctors discovered she had suffered a severe brain hemorrhage.
Tragically, despite efforts to save her, Suzy was taken off life support on February 24 with her husband by her side.
Catherine Segal admired Suzy’s dedication and kindness as a caregiver, highlighting Suzy’s dream for her daughter Mandy to have better opportunities in the UK.
Suzy’s passing leaves a void in the community she served, but her legacy of compassion and dedication will be remembered by those whose lives she touched.
