Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), and his lawyer, Mr Sunny Anyanwu, have been remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, Nigeria. This decision was made by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, who also ordered Mr Anyanwu’s remand pending the hearing of their bail application.
Ndifon and Anyanwu were re-arraigned on an amended four-count charge, alleging harassment and an attempt to pervert the course of justice. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is the complainant in the case, with Ndifon and Anyanwu as the first and second defendants, respectively. The charges are marked FHC/ABJ/CR/511/2023.
In count one, Ndifon allegedly solicited Adultc images from a diploma student of UNICAL through WhatsApp, which violates Section 24 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition & Prevention) Act 2015.
In count three, Anyanwu allegedly threatened a prosecution witness, intending to obstruct justice, punishable under Section 182 of the Penal Code Cap—532 Laws of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, 2006.
Ndifon was previously granted temporary bail on Jan. 10 for glaucoma surgery but has now been ordered back to Kuje Correctional Centre.
