A Scandinavian Airlines flight en route from Oslo, Norway, to Málaga, Spain, was forced to make an emergency landing in Denmark on Wednesday after a mouse unexpectedly jumped out of a passenger’s meal, causing panic among travellers. The incident occurred mid-flight and prompted the pilot to divert the plane to Copenhagen, according to ‘The Guardian’.

The mouse reportedly emerged from a food tray, startling passengers. Jarle Borrestad, one of the travellers onboard, took to Facebook to share his shock: “Believe it or not. A lady beside me … opened her food, and a mouse jumped out.”

Due to strict airline safety regulations prohibiting rodents on flights—mainly because they pose a risk to electrical wiring—the pilot decided to land in Copenhagen. The airline explained that rodents can chew through essential systems on the plane, prompting the precautionary landing.
Passengers were later transferred to a new flight that continued to Málaga. A spokesperson for Scandinavian Airlines emphasised the rarity of such events and assured the public that protocols are in place to handle situations like this. “We have established procedures for such situations, which also include a review with our suppliers to ensure this does not happen again,” the representative stated.
As of Friday, the fate of the mouse remains unclear.
