New Zealand, often hailed as a “beautiful place” and “a great treat for the eyes and mind,” remains a top destination for many travellers.
However, recent changes in entry requirements mean that UK visitors must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration before entering the country.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has warned British travellers planning to visit New Zealand: a new document is now mandatory for entry. The New Zealand Traveller Declaration is required for all visitors, including those with New Zealand citizenship or visas.
The FCDO states, “It is free, and you can do it via the online form or the NZTD app. A paper declaration form is available for travellers who cannot complete it online.” This declaration must be linked to the traveller’s passport and will be verified at eGate or by a border officer upon arrival.
The Traveller Declaration gathers essential travel, customs, immigration, and biosecurity information. Required details include passport number, travel itinerary, contact information, and recent travel history. Additionally, travellers must disclose their accommodation details and the items they plan to bring into New Zealand.
Every individual travelling to New Zealand, including infants and toddlers, must have a completed declaration. The form can be initiated at any time but must be submitted no earlier than 24 hours before the start of the trip. It must be completed before reaching passport control at the final destination.
In 2023, over 167,000 British nationals visited New Zealand, approaching the pre-pandemic figures 231,712 in 2019. This new requirement is expected to affect many travellers. Ensuring compliance with this new regulation is crucial to avoid being denied entry.
For more detailed information and to complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration, travellers can visit the official NZTD website or download the app. The FCDO emphasizes the importance of completing this step to ensure a smooth entry into New Zealand.
This new regulation underscores New Zealand’s commitment to maintaining stringent biosecurity and immigration controls, ensuring the safety and well-being of all visitors and residents. Travelers are advised to stay informed and prepared to meet these new requirements.
