A man has been taken into custody by New York authorities following a tragic incident at a bar in Queens, where an Irish woman lost her life.
The victim, Sarah McNally, 41, originally hailing from Co Longford, was fatally stabbed at the Ceili House Bar in Maspeth on Saturday evening.
Marcin Pieciak, 36, a resident of Queens, has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the incident.
New York police announced Pieciak’s arrest on Monday, April 1, shortly after 12:30 p.m.
Details regarding Pieciak’s court appearance have yet to be disclosed.
The authorities responded to a distress call reporting an assault at the bar on Saturday evening. Upon arrival, they found McNally with a stab wound to her neck and another individual with stab wounds to their back and neck. Both were rushed to NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst, where McNally was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing.
A Department of Foreign Affairs spokesperson confirmed awareness of the case and readiness to provide consular assistance as necessary.
