Representative Nancy Mace expressed her decision to boycott ABC News following a contentious on-air exchange with host George Stephanopoulos.
“I won’t be returning to ABC anytime soon. I made it clear as I walked out, ‘Good luck getting me back,'” stated the South Carolina Republican during an interview with NewsNation’s “On Balance” on Monday.
Mace and Stephanopoulos engaged in a heated discussion during an interview on Sunday, where he questioned her endorsement of former President Trump despite the sexual abuse allegations against him by E. Jean Carroll.
Stephanopoulos played a video clip of Mace recounting her experience of being raped before her congressional campaign in 2019.
Mace accused Stephanopoulos of “shaming” her while defending his questions about Trump’s actions, not her personal experience.
“George Stephanopoulos tried to bully me and shame me as a rape survivor over my support for Donald Trump, which is insane to me, because he wasn’t found guilty of rape anywhere,” Mace stated on Fox News.
Mace expressed her surprise that the topic of her rape was brought up during the interview, as she expected to discuss the 2024 election.
“He led with me being raped. And you can see the pain on my face,” Mace remarked.
She described the encounter with Stephanopoulos as “very awkward” and characterized his demeanour as “nasty,” suggesting it reflected the behaviour of the far left.
