A Mother Faces Child Neglect Charges After Leaving Children Alone for Cruise Trip.
Lakesha Woods Williams, 29, appeared in court on child neglect charges after leaving her two young children alone in their Houston apartment to embark on a six-day cruise.
The incident sparked concern among neighbours, leading to a police investigation upon her return.
Upon returning from her cruise, Lakesha encountered law enforcement as concerned neighbours had reported the children left unattended. Deputies found the apartment in disarray, with signs of neglect, such as leftover food, trash, and an unpleasant odour.
Constable Ted Heap emphasized the importance of accountability and child safety in such situations, stressing the need to hold responsible parties accountable for endangering children’s welfare.
Following their rescue, both children were placed under the care of a relative while Lakesha faced legal consequences. She was arrested and charged with two counts of child endangerment, with bail set at $25,000.
During her court appearance, Lakesha’s defence attorney argued that she had arranged for her cousin to care for the children but had been let down. However, District Attorney Keengan Childers emphasized the seriousness of leaving children unattended for an extended period, especially in a travel scenario like a cruise.
