An eight-year-old girl, identified as Eleni Edwards, and her mother, Martina Karos, 40, were found dead in their Salford home early Monday morning.
Greater Manchester Police are reportedly treating their deaths as a murder-suicide, stating they are not actively searching for any additional suspects and believe there are no suspicious circumstances involved.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after 1:30 AM and erected a cordon around the property while investigating. Flowers and a teddy bear have been placed at the site in a show of community support.
Neighbours have expressed shock and sadness at the news. Milana Kleina, 37, shared her memories of the family, noting how well-kept their home was and how she often saw Karos sending Eleni off to school. “I just can’t understand what’s happened,” she said, emphasising the impact of the tragedy on the usually quiet street.
Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley from the Major Incident Team expressed condolences to the family and stressed the importance of providing loved ones with information as the investigation unfolds. “It is such a tragic loss of life,” she remarked, confirming that a thorough investigation is ongoing.
Salford City Council has also expressed its condolences and offered support to residents and staff affected by the incident. The council is working closely with police as the investigation continues.
