Miss Universe Panama Contestant Italy Mora Disqualified Over Alleged Unauthorized Hotel Visit With Boyfriend
Miss Universe contestant Italy Mora, representing Panama, has been disqualified from the upcoming beauty pageant amid reports of an unauthorized hotel visit with her boyfriend. The 19-year-old was scheduled to compete in Mexico City on Nov. 16 alongside 130 delegates worldwide.
Local media reports indicate that Mora’s disqualification followed a disciplinary review by the Miss Universe organization. The organization stated that she had committed a “personal error” but did not release specifics. Speculation arose that Mora, while staying at the event’s designated hotel, visited her boyfriend, Juan Abadía, in his room without approval from pageant officials.
Mora addressed the allegations, attributing her exit to a dispute with César Anel Rodríguez, the director of Miss Universe Panama. Mora claimed the disagreement stemmed from the pageant’s lack of organization and failure to provide essential support.
According to Abadía, who was present during the disagreement, he had travelled to Mexico to assist Mora with expenses and necessities reportedly not covered by the organization, including food, hotel costs, and a $7,000 Carolina Herrera dress.
Following the argument, Mora was spotted with Abadía, which reportedly led to allegations of the unauthorized visit and, eventually, her disqualification.
Addressing the controversy, Mora expressed frustration with the ongoing speculation, saying, “There’s a lot of speculation that needs to be cleared up because it’s impacting my reputation, and emotionally, it’s been difficult.” Despite her attempts to appeal the decision, pageant officials held firm. Mora ultimately accepted responsibility, saying, “I take responsibility for my actions and accept the consequences.”
The Miss Universe organization stated, “It is important to note that we made this decision with the utmost respect for all parties involved. Our No. 1 priority remains the welfare and transparency for all our candidates, who exemplify diversity, talent, and dedication.”
A replacement contestant will not be named to represent Panama this year, with the organization focusing instead on future participation.
