A Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with misconduct in public office after being accused of possessing and sharing CCTV images related to the rape of two women.
PC Adam Aspinall Da Encarnacao, suspended from duty, is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The Crown Prosecution Service has authorized two charges against PC Aspinall Da Encarnacao. The charges are linked to the inappropriate possession and dissemination of CCTV footage concerning the alleged rape of one woman and the rape of another. One of the victims, Natalie Patricia Shotter, 37, was found deceased in Southall Park on July 17, 2021.
The Metropolitan Police have notified Natalie’s family about the charges against the officer and expressed their condolences, acknowledging the impact this news will have on them.
In addition, the second victim has been informed of the situation. The police’s professional standards department is investigating the case. PC Aspinall Da Encarnacao was arrested on September 12, 2022, and was immediately suspended from his duties.
Natalie Shotter’s mother had previously criticized the Metropolitan Police for their handling of her daughter’s case, alleging that officers failed to check on Natalie despite her vulnerability. Natalie left behind a young daughter, aged 21 months, and two sons, aged 15 and 14.
