Former First Lady Melania Trump is expected to appear at the Republican National Convention. This makes it a rare public appearance during the ongoing proceedings, which conclude on Thursday.
Eric Trump announced during a conversation with “CBS Mornings” on Wednesday, where he also revealed that both Melania and Ivanka Trump would be attending to support their father, former President Donald Trump.
Melania and Ivanka’s presence at the convention signifies a notable return to the political spotlight after being relatively absent from Trump’s 2024 campaign activities. Eric Trump emphasized that the entire Trump family is unified and firmly behind the GOP nominee.
Earlier in the convention, other Trump family members, including Eric Trump and his wife Lara Trump, Donald Trump Jr. with his fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle, and Tiffany Trump, accompanied by her husband Michael Boulos, were prominently featured. However, Barron Trump, Donald and Melania’s youngest son, is not in attendance.
Melania Trump and Barron were last seen exiting Trump Tower in June, following the former President’s troubles stemming from a trial involving multiple charges related to “hush money.” Barron, who graduated from high school in May, had appeared alongside the rest of the Trump family at a rally in Doral, Florida.
Despite Melania’s reduced presence on the campaign trail in 2024, she did not deliver a speech at the convention, a departure from her previous engagements in 2016 and 2020.
Her decision to step back from public speaking contrasts with the active involvement of Trump’s vice presidential pick, Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio), who was joined by his wife, Usha, on the convention floor.
