The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, paid tribute to Prince Harry’s philanthropic efforts this Mother’s Day as they marked the 10-year milestone of the Invictus Games in Nigeria.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have visited an African nation to support the Paralympic-style event founded by Prince Harry, which celebrates wounded or injured servicemen and veterans in different sports.
It remains uncertain whether Meghan and Harry’s children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 2, accompanied them on their trip to Nigeria or stayed home in the US.
While Mother’s Day in the UK fell on March 10, Meghan celebrated the occasion in the US on Sunday, where the family has been residing since stepping back from their royal duties in 2020.
On their final official day in Nigeria, Meghan and Harry arrived in Lagos and visited the Ilupeju Senior Grammar School.
There, they observed a basketball exhibition organised by the Giants of Africa in partnership with their Archewell Foundation.
Meghan received her first public Mother’s Day wishes from ex-NBA star Masai Ujiri, who serves as the vice-chairman and president of the Giants of Africa.
The day before, Meghan led a panel discussion on women in leadership, sharing insights on balancing motherhood and career aspirations.
Reflecting on her journey as a mother, Meghan emphasised how the concept of balance evolves.
During Meghan and Harry’s visit to Nigeria, Meghan recounted a touching moment with her daughter, Lilibet, while engaging with students at the Lightway Academy. She shared how Lilibet remarked, “Mama, I see me in you,” prompting Meghan to reflect on the profound connection between parent and child.
Meghan and Harry reunited at London’s Heathrow Airport before embarking on their journey to Nigeria, with Harry having spent three days in his home country for the Invictus Games anniversary celebrations.
Notably, Harry did not have any encounters with his relatives, including his father, King Charles III, and brother, Prince William, during his stay in London. Meanwhile, Meghan stayed behind with their children in California before joining Harry for their trip to Nigeria.
