Megan Thee Stallion Teams Up with Pepsi for Epic NFL Campaign Featuring NFL Stars and a New Take on “We Will Rock You”
Rapper Megan Thee Stallion has reached a new career milestone. She stars in Pepsi’s latest campaign, “Make Your Gameday Epic,” ahead of the 2024-2025 NFL season.
The 29-year-old artist leads an all-star cast in the commercial, including NFL players Travis Kelce, Josh Allen, Derrick Henry, and Justin Jefferson, in a gladiator-style showdown inspired by the upcoming “Gladiator II” film.
The campaign, which features a reimagined version of Queen’s iconic anthem “We Will Rock You,” includes new lyrics written and performed by Megan Thee Stallion. The three-minute commercial begins with actors Lamorne Morris and Jake Lacy discussing their fantasy football teams in a bar. After ordering Pepsi, they are transported to a Roman coliseum setting where the NFL stars prepare for battle under the command of “Empress Megan.”
Tigers are released as the arena gates open, challenging the NFL players to work together to defeat the beasts. The dramatic scene concludes with Megan joining the players, declaring, “Let the game day begin!” before they return to the NFL field.
Directed by Jake Scott, son of legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott, the campaign is a visual spectacle that blends the intensity of sports with the grandeur of the “Gladiator” franchise.
Jake Scott expressed his excitement about the project, noting that the collaboration with Pepsi and the involvement of such high-profile talent made the campaign unforgettable.
Megan Thee Stallion, who will host the 2024 Video Music Awards on September 11, shared her enthusiasm about the project.
“A Pepsi commercial is such a huge deal,” she told PEOPLE. It feels like a rite of passage for artists like Beyoncé, Britney Spears, and me.” She added that working on the campaign made her realise her level of fame.
Regarding the recording of her version of “We Will Rock You,” Megan described the process as challenging and rewarding. “The song is already so iconic, but I wanted to put my spin on it,” she said. “Pepsi gave me so much creative freedom; now it will be in a commercial.”
Megan Thee Stallion’s version of “We Will Rock You” is now available for streaming, while “Gladiator II” will be released in theatres on November 22.
