Mass Attack at German Festival Leaves Multiple Dead and Several Injured
A mass attack at a festival in Solingen, western Germany, has resulted in multiple deaths and left at least nine people seriously injured. The incident occurred in the city’s downtown area during a celebration marking Solingen’s 650th anniversary.
According to initial reports, the attacker, believed to have used a knife, struck at random, targeting festival-goers. While the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, at least three people are feared dead, as reported by Bild. The assailant is still at large, prompting authorities to issue a warning for people to avoid the area.
Eyewitness Lars Breitzke described the chaos that unfolded, recalling how he noticed something amiss when a singer on stage appeared unusually distressed. Moments later, a person collapsed just a meter away from him.
Festival organizer Philipp Müller addressed the crowd, informing them that emergency workers were fighting to save the lives of nine severely injured individuals. Despite the shock, attendees reportedly left the area calmly and orderly.
The festival, which began on Friday and was scheduled to run until Sunday, has now been marred by this tragic event. Solingen, a city with a population of around 160,000, is located near Cologne and Düsseldorf. Armed police officers remain at the scene as the investigation continues.
