Tehran, Iran — Thousands of Iranians took to the streets across the country on Friday in coordinated demonstrations against Israel, with state television airing footage of large crowds chanting slogans in support of Iran’s leadership and allied groups.
In the capital Tehran, protesters gathered after weekly prayers, many carrying flags of Iran and Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group backed by Tehran. Others held up portraits of military commanders killed since the start of the current conflict with Israel.
“This is the Friday of the Iranian nation’s solidarity and resistance across the country,” a state broadcaster announced, as images showed dense crowds rallying in Tehran’s city centre.
One demonstrator’s banner read: “I will sacrifice my life for my leader” — a pointed show of allegiance to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Protests Nationwide
Beyond the capital, similar demonstrations were held in Tabriz, in Iran’s northwest, and Shiraz, a major city in the south, according to national media reports. Crowds in those cities echoed the same pro-leadership and anti-Israel slogans.
The protests follow rising regional tensions and Iran’s increasing rhetorical and political support for groups engaged in the conflict with Israel.
Iranian officials have not released official turnout figures, but the coordinated nature of the demonstrations and their broadcast across state channels underscore the government’s effort to project a unified domestic stance.
