Mason Greenwood Thrives on Loan at Getafe, Credits Fans for Success
Mason Greenwood is thoroughly enjoying his season-long loan at Getafe, expressing gratitude for the club’s fans. In 17 matches, the 22-year-old has notched up five goals and four assists, earning him Getafe’s player of the month award, voted for by fans across La Liga. Despite interest from clubs like Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, his current club is keen on retaining him.
The summer loan move came after Manchester United informed Greenwood of his lack of future at Old Trafford, following an internal investigation triggered by dropped charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive control in February 2023. Greenwood, who has denied all allegations and hasn’t played for United since January 2022, secured his place in Getafe, starting nearly every match this season.
Feeling settled in Spain, Greenwood expressed his contentment, stating. “Teammates took me under their wing, and I’ve just been happy ever since, coming here and training, playing the games. I’m happy.” He particularly appreciated the fans, highlighting the joy of scoring his first goal at the stadium and acknowledging the supporters as an extra motivator on the pitch during training days.
Greenwood’s contract with United extends until 2025.
