Manchester United Confirm Mason Greenwood’s Permanent Transfer to Marseille
Manchester United has officially announced that Mason Greenwood, the 22-year-old striker, has departed the club permanently to join Marseille.
Greenwood’s departure comes after a tumultuous period during which he faced legal issues and was subsequently cleared of all charges related to attempted rape, controlling behaviour, and assault following his arrest in January 2022.
Despite being acquitted in February 2023, Manchester United chose not to reintegrate Greenwood into the first-team squad last year.
Instead, he was sent on loan to Getafe in Spain. Greenwood returned to United’s training ground recently but was informed by the club’s management that he had no future at Old Trafford.
Marseille recently submitted an official bid, reportedly valued at £26 million, to acquire Greenwood, which includes a 50% sell-on clause.
This clause ensures that Manchester United will receive a significant portion of any future transfer fee should Marseille decide to sell him.
Greenwood, a former England international, had shown promise during his tenure at Manchester United but faced setbacks both on and off the field.
His move to Marseille marks a new chapter in his career, with the French club securing his services ahead of the upcoming season.
