Harrow — A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for the kidnapping and sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl who was abducted on her way home from school.
Adam Baillie, of Harrow, carried out the attack on April 19, 2024, after luring the girl away.
He took her to his home, where she was held captive. The child managed to escape and ran to a neighbor’s house, where police were called.
Authorities said the victim’s bravery played a key role in the swift arrest. The girl directed police to Baillie’s residence, leading to his immediate detention.
He was later convicted of kidnapping and sexual assault following a trial at Harrow Crown Court in October.
Baillie was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 10 years behind bars.
In a statement following the sentencing, PC Georgia Devaney-Brighton, who led the investigation, described the case as “an appalling crime that sent shockwaves through the community.”
“This young survivor showed extraordinary courage throughout the process. Her strength and willingness to work with us were critical in securing this conviction,” she said.
Devaney-Brighton also expressed gratitude to the victim’s family, acknowledging their trust in law enforcement and resilience during the harrowing ordeal.
Police hailed the outcome as a powerful message of justice for victims
