A 45-year-old man from South Tapanuli Regency in North Sumatra has been accused of murdering his 60-year-old neighbour after being repeatedly questioned about his marital status.
The incident occurred on July 29, as reported by the Straits Times.
The victim, identified as Asgim Irianto, was allegedly attacked by Parlindungan Siregar, who became increasingly agitated by Irianto’s persistent inquiries regarding his single status. According to statements from Irianto’s wife, Siregar arrived at their residence armed with a piece of wood and launched a sudden and violent assault on Irianto.
During the attack, Irianto fled into the street, but Siregar followed and struck him on the head with the wooden weapon. Despite Irianto collapsing, Siregar continued the assault until other residents intervened. Emergency services transported Irianto to the hospital, but he died from his injuries before reaching medical care.
Siregar was arrested shortly after the incident. Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack, with preliminary indications suggesting that Siregar’s frustration over Irianto’s relentless questioning about his marital status may have contributed to the violence.
