A drug dealer caused major disruption at Hull Crown Court after being denied bail, leading to a violent outburst and aggressive behaviour towards custody officers.
Luke Swift, 29, of Vernon Road, Bridlington, became enraged after the court refused to grant him bail, resulting in a tense struggle as he was escorted out of the courtroom.
Swift was in custody for breaching his bail conditions on August 1 after failing to appear at a previous hearing.
He had been arrested on a warrant without bail and brought before the court.
During his appearance, Swift admitted to possessing cocaine with intent to supply on January 23 in Bridlington, a charge he initially denied but later changed his plea.
Additionally, Swift admitted to intentionally and recklessly causing a public nuisance on April 9 by evading police arrest by climbing onto the roof of a house in Manor Street, Bridlington.
This reckless act not only endangered the public but also led to significant disruption.
Michael Masson, representing Swift, explained that his client had recently become homeless after unexpectedly being asked to leave a friend’s home in Bridlington. During this difficult period, Swift faced significant trauma, including having his tent burned or damaged multiple times.
Masson also noted that Swift was concerned about the welfare of a dog left in his flat when he was arrested.
Despite Swift expressing remorse for missing probation service appointments, the court refused his request for bail. Upon hearing the decision, Swift reacted angrily, shouting and swearing as he was led out of the secure dock and down to the cells.
His outburst continued for some time, with banging noises and continued resistance, prompting court officials to consider bringing him back to face potential contempt of court charges.
Swift was remanded in custody until September 16, with further reports to prepare before his next court appearance.
