Police have apprehended a male suspect who is cooperating with their investigation, according to a spokesperson from Reuters. The attack occurred in Wakeley, about 30km west of the central business district.

The assault took place during a service at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, where police are currently managing large crowds gathered for the event.

Footage from a live stream captured the attack during the church service in the western part of the city. An individual approached the altar, brandished a knife, and attacked the preacher, causing panic among attendees. Several individuals rushed to intervene.

The New South Wales ambulance service reported that at least four individuals sustained injuries, including a man in his 50s in serious condition, who was transported to the hospital.
