London Pub: 80 Firefighters Scrambled to Tackle ‘Severe’ Blaze at Historic Venue

According to the London Fire Brigade, a historic pub in London’s south-west suffered extensive damage during a fire on Friday night.

Responding to an emergency call around 7:30 pm, firefighting teams rushed to the scene at the Burn Bullock in Mitcham after reports emerged of flames engulfing the iconic building on London Road.

Around 80 firefighters were called from Norbury, Wimbledon, and Tooting to extinguish a fire at a heritage-listed pub. Despite their valiant efforts and the deployment of 12 fire engines, the pub, which had been closed for over ten years, was still extensively damaged in the blaze.

The fire ravaged half of the ground, first and second floors, leaving the once-vibrant establishment in ruins, with the roof also succumbing to the inferno’s fury.

London Ambulance Service personnel were on-site to assess four individuals, as eyewitness accounts painted a distressing picture of the unfolding tragedy.

Amzy, an 18-year-old resident residing near the pub, recounted the chilling scene, observing the exposed roof timbers as flames engulfed the structure.

As an architecture enthusiast, Amzy lamented the loss of the pub’s historic charm, echoing the sentiment many in the community shared.

The Burn Bullock, a cherished landmark in Mitcham, served as a focal point of local culture and heritage. Over a decade ago, its closure marked the end of an era for residents. The devastating fire not only claimed the physical structure but also dealt a blow to the collective memory and identity of the neighbourhood.
