Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that defender Kyle Walker has expressed his desire to leave the club, signalling a potential move abroad.
During a press conference following City’s emphatic 8-0 FA Cup victory over Salford, Guardiola revealed Walker’s decision, which explains the England international’s absence from the squad.
“He has told us he wants a new challenge,” Guardiola stated. “Kyle has been an important part of our success, but we respect his decision to explore other options.”
Walker, 34, has been a key figure in City’s defensive lineup since joining the club from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017. Known for his pace and versatility, he has won multiple Premier League titles and played a pivotal role in securing City’s historic treble last season.
Although no official offers have been disclosed, reports suggest Walker is eyeing a move to a top European league. Italy and Germany are reportedly interested.
Manchester City is expected to begin their search for a replacement should Walker’s departure be finalized.
