King Charles is set to undergo significant surgery next week, according to an announcement from Buckingham Palace. The procedure is aimed at addressing an enlarged prostate, and as a result, the monarch will temporarily postpone his public engagements. Coincidentally, on the same day, it was disclosed that the Princess of Wales had undergone an abdominal operation and is currently in recovery.

The statement from Buckingham Palace highlighted that, like thousands of men each year, King Charles sought treatment for an enlarged prostate. The King’s public engagements will be temporarily postponed for recovery. This decision to share details of his diagnosis aims to encourage other men with similar symptoms to seek medical attention in line with public health advice.

Based on the doctor’s advice, scheduled meetings and events at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire for Thursday and Friday have been postponed. This adjustment was made to inform guests, including foreign dignitaries and members of the Cabinet, who were planning to travel to Scotland.

Simultaneously, Kensington Palace announced that the Princess of Wales was in the hospital recovering from surgery. She was admitted to The London Clinic for an abdominal procedure and will spend the next several weeks resting at home in Windsor. It’s unlikely that the Princess will return to public duties until after Easter, according to current medical advice, and the Palace confirmed that her condition is non-cancerous.

Prince William also refrains from public duties during this period, combining support for his wife with caring for their three children – George, Charlotte, and Louis. Several engagements will be postponed during this immediate period.

Kensington Palace emphasized that the Princess of Wales appreciates the public’s interest and hopes for understanding regarding her desire to maintain normalcy for her children. She also expressed a wish for her personal medical information to remain private.

King Charles and the Princess of Wales are anticipated to resume their public duties after their respective recovery periods.
