King Charles III of the United Kingdom has personally sent a solidarity diplomatic letter out to Donald Trump following the former president’s survival of an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Buckingham Palace confirmed the letter was delivered via the UK embassy in Washington, DC, on Sunday.

The contents of the letter, which remain confidential, are reported to echo sentiments expressed by UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who publicly denounced the attack and extended wishes for Trump’s swift recovery. This gesture underscores the enduring diplomatic relations between the UK and the United States during times of crisis.

During his tenure, Trump had been hosted by King Charles for tea at Clarence House in 2019. Queen Elizabeth II also extended hospitality with a state banquet in his honour, illustrating the longstanding ties between the two nations.

The assassination attempt on Trump, 78, took place during an outdoor campaign rally where a sniper opened fire, resulting in injuries to Trump and the tragic death of firefighter Corey Comperatore. Two other attendees were also injured in the incident. Trump recounted the terrifying experience on his Truth Social platform, describing how a bullet narrowly missed him, grazing his ear.

The assailant, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was swiftly neutralized by Secret Service agents at the scene.
