King Charles is keenly aware that the clock on his reign is “ticking,” as per a royal expert. Despite being 75 years old and undergoing outpatient treatment for cancer, he has been increasingly engaged in public duties in recent weeks.

King refusing to slow down his workload, Charles remains committed to his responsibilities, showcasing his awareness of the finite time he has to leave his mark as monarch.

“Given he had the longest wait in history as heir to the throne, given his age, as well as his current health crisis, he is poignantly aware that time is ticking,” Fordwich told Fox News. She highlighted that Charles has been preparing for his role for 70 years and is now fully immersing himself in his duties with a sense of urgency.

Fordwich explained that Charles’ determination to leave a significant legacy drives him to maintain a busy schedule. “He wants to make his mark. So all that downtime away from his people makes him anxious and agitated,” she said, emphasizing that his projects are substantive and not merely ceremonial.

The expert noted, “The last thing that the nation wants is a lazy monarch,” reinforcing the expectation for Charles to be actively visible to the public and engaged in meaningful activities.

Buckingham Palace has not commented on Charles’ ongoing health issues or increased workload. Meanwhile, Queen Camilla aged 76, has reportedly urged her husband to “slow down” as he continues his cancer treatment, indicating concern for his well-being amid his hectic schedule.

Elsewhere, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams described Charles as a “workaholic who skips lunch,” echoing the late Queen Elizabeth II sentiment that visibility is crucial for a monarch. “The late Queen Elizabeth II said, ‘I must be seen to be believed,’ and as monarch, he knows it’s his duty to be seen. That is one of the factors driving him,” Fitzwilliams remarked.

Last week, Charles attended the commemorative D-Day ceremony in France, marking the 80th anniversary of the historic landings. This appearance underscored his commitment to his role despite his health challenges.

Following a brief period away from the public eye, Charles is preparing to appear defiantly at the Trooping the Colour ceremony in London this weekend. This annual event is a significant occasion in the royal calendar, showcasing the monarch’s visibility and engagement.

In a change from tradition, Charles will be driven in a horse-drawn carriage alongside Camilla rather than riding on horseback as he has done in previous years. This adjustment reflects considerations for his health while maintaining his public duties.

Fordwich emphasized that every project Charles undertakes is designed to have a lasting impact. “They are not just honorary where he shows up occasionally. He has devoted his life to having an impact,” she stated, underlining his commitment to substantive initiatives.

The expert’s insights reflect a broader concern about Charles’ health and his ability to maintain his rigorous schedule. His awareness of the ticking clock on his reign adds a poignant urgency to his actions and public engagements.

The nation is watching closely as Charles continues to navigate his responsibilities amid his health challenges. His efforts to balance his duties with his well-being are a testament to his dedication to the crown and the legacy he aims to leave behind.

The Post has contacted Buckingham Palace for further comments on the king’s health and future engagements. Charles remains steadfast in his role, determined to make the most of his reign despite the ticking clock.
