Kim Kardashian’s Bold Fashion U-Turn Reveals She’s Finally Shed Kanye West’s Influence and Reclaimed Her Confidence

Kim Kardashian continues to make headlines with her ever-evolving fashion choices, but recently, her looks seem nostalgic.

The 42-year-old reality star has been spotted donning pencil skirts and court shoes, reminiscent of her pre-Kanye West style during her rise to fame in the Noughties.

Gone are the bold latex suits and eye-catching wigs that characterised her looks during her marriage to rapper Kanye West from 2014 to 2022.

Instead, fashion editor Amber Graafland notes that Kim is revisiting her earlier aesthetic, which featured classic pieces like stiletto heels, figure-hugging bandage dresses, and skinny jeans.

“Her latest look is very, very familiar,” Graafland remarked. “Kim seems to have gone backwards with her style and has been revisiting some of her original looks. Through the 2000s and 2010s, she seemed to stick to a set of style codes.”

The shift in Kim’s wardrobe can be traced back to her marriage when Kanye exerted significant influence over her fashion choices. Graafland elaborated, stating that “Kanye would go to extremes to control her image,” even flying to Paris to style her. This reliance on his opinion affected her confidence, leaving her feeling lost after their divorce.

Throughout her marriage, Kim made headlines for her daring fashion statements, such as her striking black Givenchy outfit in 2014 and the latex dress for her fragrance launch.

Notable moments include the sheer Galliano dress at the 2016 MTV VMAs and the iconic Thierry Mugler ‘wet’ dress at the 2019 Met Gala.

In an episode of ‘The Kardashians’, Kim shared her struggles with her sense of style, revealing, “I always just trusted in him.” After filing for divorce in February 2021 and finalising it in November 2022, Kim admitted that finding her style was challenging.

However, Amber notes a significant transformation in Kim’s fashion sense since the split. “Post-Kanye, Kim seems to have undergone a 360-degree style U-turn. The pencil skirts are back, and we are seeing a lot of pointy stilettos,” she explained.

Graafland believes Kim has regained her confidence and is rediscovering her style. “She’s been forced to trust her styling instincts and is enjoying fashion again,” she added, highlighting Kim’s newfound freedom to explore her fashion identity.
