Reality star and business mogul Kim Kardashian disclosed on Hulu’s The Kardashians Season 7 premiere that doctors discovered a small brain aneurysm during a recent MRI scan.
According to Page Six, the 45-year-old attributed the health scare to stress from her high-profile divorce from ex-husband Kanye West.
The Moment of Discovery
In the episode, Kardashian called her eldest sister Kourtney after receiving the diagnosis. Footage shows Kourtney visibly shaken, covering her heart as Kim describes the news.
Doctors explained that aneurysms, a bulge or ballooning in a blood vessel, can develop due to genetic factors or stress-related triggers, according to the Mayo Clinic.
“I questioned why the f–k it was happening to me,” Kim said on the show. “They told me it could be stress.” She expressed concern that the strain of co-parenting four children—North, 12; Saint, 9; Chicago, 7; and Psalm, 6—with West may have contributed.
Kardashian and West’s Co-Parenting Tensions
The reality star and West, 48, were married from 2014 to 2022. Since their split, West has publicly voiced frustration over co-parenting arrangements.
In March, he criticised what he called the “Kardashian mob” for limiting his parenting decisions, posting on social media about restrictions regarding his children’s schooling, social activities and even personal choices such as wearing lipstick or perfume.
Legal experts note that high-conflict co-parenting cases, especially those with complex public scrutiny, can significantly elevate psychosocial stress, which is a recognised risk factor for cardiovascular and neurological issues, including aneurysms.
Acknowledging Psychological Strain
During the episode, Kim also reflected on feeling trapped in a cycle of emotional control during her marriage, describing a sense of Stockholm syndrome toward the West.
“I always felt really bad and wanted to protect him, always wanting to help,” she admitted. She criticised public commentators who suggested she should simply walk away, emphasising the realities of shared parental responsibilities.
Public and Medical Perspectives
Medical professionals caution that while stress can exacerbate health conditions, aneurysms are complex and multifactorial.
Dr Laura Fields, neurologist at Cedars-Sinai, told M10News, “Stress can contribute to vascular strain, but aneurysms also arise from genetic predispositions and lifestyle factors. Regular monitoring and early detection, as Kim received, are crucial.”
Social media response to Kim’s disclosure has been substantial, with fans expressing concern and support for the star’s health while engaging in broader discussions about mental health, high-stress relationships, and parental pressures in the public eye.
M10News Analysis
This revelation highlights the intersection of celebrity lifestyle, intense media scrutiny, and mental and physical health. For high-profile individuals navigating contentious divorces or co-parenting arrangements, the stress can have tangible physiological consequences.
Kardashian’s decision to share her diagnosis publicly may also spark increased awareness of brain aneurysms and the importance of regular medical check-ups, particularly for those under chronic stress.
