Kelly Rowland recently highlighted an incident on the Cannes red carpet where she felt unfairly treated by a female security guard.
The 43-year-old singer pointed out that other women who “did not quite look like me” were not reprimanded or pushed away, unlike her experience.
The altercation occurred as the security guard attempted to guide Rowland up the stairs to the theatre.
Rowland appeared visibly upset, pointing her finger at the staff member during the dispute.
Rowland addressed the incident while attending the amfAR gala in Cannes, which featured stars like Demi Moore and Cher, supporting AIDS research.
“The woman knows what happened. I know what happened. And, I have a boundary. And I stand by those boundaries and that is it,” Rowland stated. She reiterated that other women on the red carpet were not treated the same way.
“There were other women who attended that carpet, who did not quite look like me, and they didn’t get scolded or pushed off or told to get off.”
Rowland’s firm stance on the red carpet underscores her commitment to her principles. “I stood my ground. And she felt she had to stand hers, but I stood my ground and that was it,” she added.
This incident isn’t the first time Rowland has made headlines for standing up for herself.
Earlier this year, she reportedly walked off the Today show in the US, though the reasons behind her exit remain speculative and unconfirmed.
Rowland’s experiences at high-profile events highlight ongoing issues of racial discrimination and the importance of standing up for one’s rights and dignity. Her actions at Cannes serve as a reminder of the significance of maintaining personal boundaries and advocating for fair treatment.
