Mexico City, MX — Katy Perry is facing a wave of online criticism after a video of her unconventional dance routine during the opening night of her “Lifetimes” tour went viral on social media.

The pop star’s performance in Mexico City on Wednesday drew mixed reactions, with many viewers calling her choreography robotic and lackluster.

In a one-minute TikTok clip, Perry is seen performing her hit song “Part of Me” while dressed in a space-themed outfit featuring a cone bra and thigh-high boots. Her routine included lying on the stage with one leg in the air and stiff, robotic movements — a performance that left many viewers unimpressed.

“People are paying to see this?” one user on X (formerly Twitter) commented. Another added, “So shockingly bad,” while a third wrote, “This looks more like somebody who’s come out of retirement after 30 years and is trying to pull the same moves off they did when they were young and popular.”

TikTok users were equally ruthless. One wrote, “This is the worst choreography I’ve ever seen in my life,” while others joked, “It’s giving school talent show” and “This looks like an SNL skit.” Another commenter added, “She’s struggling. No energy here. Hopefully, she finds her groove.”

Some critics linked Perry’s offbeat performance to her recent brief trip to space. The 40-year-old singer was part of an all-women Blue Origin spaceflight crew on April 14.
“Guess those 11 minutes she spent in space could have been better spent on choreography,” one TikTok user quipped. Echoing the sentiment, another added, “Too much space travel. She’s not used to being back on the ground.”

Amid the backlash, Perry addressed her critics during the show. “Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?” she asked the crowd, seemingly referencing both her spaceflight and her eccentric stage performances.
The show featured space-themed costumes, a mid-air flight over the audience, and fans in blue NASA suits taking selfies with the star.
Page Six reported that it reached out to tour choreographer Kaylie Yee and creative direction firm Squared Division for comment, but had not received a response at the time of publication.
Despite the harsh online reception, some fans came to Perry’s defence. “Y’all don’t understand Katy is weird like this and always has been,” one supporter wrote on X. Another added, “She’s having fun — leave the woman alone.”

The “Lifetimes” tour continues amid a divided response, with Perry embracing her signature eccentricity and space-themed flair.
