Karen Gillan Reveals Pregnancy at The Life of Chuck Premiere, Expecting First Child with Husband Nick Kocher
Scottish actress Karen Gillan, 36, made headlines as she debuted her baby bump at the premiere of ‘The Life of Chuck’ at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday night.
The actress, best known for her roles in Jumanji and Avengers: Endgame, is expecting her first child with husband Nick Kocher. The couple married in May 2022 at a lavish ceremony at Castle Toward near Dunoon in Argyll, Scotland.
Gillan looked radiant as she graced the red carpet in a stunning yellow bodycon dress paired with perspex heels. The glowing mom-to-be lovingly cradled her growing bump while posing for photos. Despite the public debut of her pregnancy, Gillan has yet to announce the news on her social media platforms, where she boasts an impressive 7.8 million followers.
The actress’s wedding to Kocher was glamorous, with family and friends arriving in style via a luxury superyacht. The groom and his groomsmen splashed by opting for a speedboat entrance. The star-studded event reportedly included A-list guests such as Julia Roberts and Gillan’s ‘Avengers’ co-star Robert Downey Jr.
Currently based in the United States, Gillan stars in the ITV drama Douglas Is Cancelled. In June, she appeared on The One Show to discuss her role in the series, which centres on a TV host facing backlash after making a controversial joke. When asked if working on the series had made her reconsider her social media presence, Gillan admitted, “My finger’s been hovering over the delete account button since the show.”
Fans of the actress will be relieved to know that she hasn’t made any drastic decisions regarding her online presence. Gillan has become one of Scotland’s biggest Hollywood stars, with a string of box-office hits and a massive social media following. In 2019, she was named the third-highest-grossing star at the box office, following ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and ‘Jumanji: The Next Level.
Despite her Hollywood success, Gillan expressed her delight at returning to the UK to work on ‘Douglas Is Cancelled’, a project written by fellow Scot Steven Moffat, known for his work on Sherlock and Doctor Who. The series also stars Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville, who plays a morning TV host caught in a cancel culture controversy after making an ill-advised comment at a wedding.
The series is expected to compare real-life cancel controversies involving high-profile broadcasters. In one scene, Bonneville’s character is warned by his agent that he risks the fate of other disgraced broadcasters.
The 81st Venice International Film Festival continues to be a star-studded event, with notable appearances by George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Angelina Jolie. The festival, organised by La Biennale di Venezia, runs from August 28 to September 7, 2024, and features an array of high-profile films and industry talent.
