Kanye West is known for his eccentric fashion choices, but his latest accessory has left many fans puzzled and amused.
The rapper showed up at his son Saint’s basketball game in Los Angeles on Friday wearing a white hockey mask that resembled the one worn by Jason Voorhees, the infamous killer from the “Friday the 13th” horror franchise.
West, 46, paired the mask with a black leather jacket, dark jeans, and rubber gloves, starkly contrasting the other parents and spectators at the Calabasas Sports Academy. Some people took to social media to comment on West’s bizarre outfit, with reactions ranging from confusion to admiration.
“Kanye West is a genius. He wears a mask to avoid the paparazzi and still makes headlines,” one user tweeted.
“Kanye West is either trolling us or preparing for Halloween in February,” another user wrote.
“Kanye West is living in his world, and I respect that,” a third user said.
West’s mask choice may have been inspired by his recent surprise performance at Travis Scott’s Circus Maximus Tour show in Orlando, Fla., where he wore the same mask and performed six songs, according to Complex.
West also wore a full black mask covering his entire head during a family dinner at Nobu Malibu earlier this week.
West’s mask obsession is not new, as he has been wearing various masks for years, especially during his Yeezus Tour in 2013 and 2014. He has also covered his face at several public events, such as the 2022 BET Awards and the 2023 Met Gala.
West’s mask may also express his artistic vision, as he recently shared a video of his wife, Bianca Censori, surrounded by lookalikes wearing sheer bodysuits and white fluffy boots.
The video, posted on his Instagram account before he deleted all of his posts, was reportedly a teaser for his upcoming collaborative album with Ty Dolla $ign, Vultures, which is set to be released in three volumes next month.
