Kamala Harris Declares ‘I Know Donald Trump’s Type’ at First Presidential Campaign Rally
Kamala Harris kicked off her presidential campaign with a rally in the swing state of Wisconsin, emphasizing her prosecutorial background and taking aim at Donald Trump.
Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd, Harris asserted her familiarity with “Trump’s type,” drawing on her experience as California’s attorney general and a courtroom prosecutor.
The rally was part of an event planned before Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election, positioning Harris as the leading candidate for the Democratic nomination.
In her speech, she outlined her strategy to tackle Trump, who is favoured to win the Republican nomination.
Harris stated, “I know Donald Trump’s type,” and highlighted her record of prosecuting various perpetrators, including fraudsters and abusers.
Harris’s campaign aims to contrast her law enforcement background with Trump’s criminal conviction, mainly focusing on his liability for sexual abuse. She declared, “As a prosecutor, I specialized in cases involving sexual abuse. Well, Trump was found liable for committing sexual abuse.”
Harris has now secured the required number of delegates to become the Democratic nominee less than three and a half months before the election. She received endorsements from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, bolstering her campaign.
However, some Democrats, including former President Obama, support a competitive primary process to address concerns about Harris being seen as a political elite’s choice.
Despite this, Harris’s momentum makes her unlikely to face significant opposition.
Discussion is now turning to her potential vice-presidential pick, with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly emerging as top contenders.
Harris is expected to make the decision closer to next month’s Democratic National Convention.
