Jurgen Klopp Named ‘Global Head of Soccer’ for Red Bull Following Departure from Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp has officially accepted a new position as the ‘Global Head of Soccer’ for Red Bull, marking his first significant role since leaving Liverpool FC.
The 57-year-old German manager has been enjoying a break after retiring from his position at Liverpool at the end of the last season.
Despite speculation that he could become the next manager of the German national team following Julian Nagelsmann’s tenure, Sky Germany reports that Klopp has reached an agreement with Red Bull for a long-term role that will commence on January 1, 2025.
In his new capacity, Klopp will oversee Red Bull’s football clubs, which include RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, and Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls.
As part of his responsibilities, Klopp will serve as a consultant, providing guidance on playing philosophy and assisting in the recruitment of players and staff for the various Red Bull clubs.
Oliver Mintzlaff, the current CEO of Corporate Projects and Investments at Red Bull, played a pivotal role in bringing Klopp to the organisation.
Borussia Dortmund’s CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, commented on Klopp’s new position, stating, “For me, it was no surprise because we had spoken about it personally. I wish Jurgen, as always, good luck in his new job.”
Earlier this month, Klopp addressed the rumors regarding the German national team, emphasizing his support for Nagelsmann and downplaying any imminent change.
“Everyone hopes that Julian Nagelsmann will do this for much longer than 2026,” Klopp said, adding, “I would be reluctant to talk about football today because there is nothing to say.”
Interestingly, Sky Germany also reported that Klopp’s contract with Red Bull includes a clause allowing him to take over the German national team if the opportunity arises before the next World Cup in 2026.
