A joint operation conducted by American and Iraqi forces has resulted in the death of 15 Islamic State (ISIS) operatives in western Iraq, the U.S. military announced on Friday.
The operation occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 29, and was executed by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) in coordination with Iraqi partners.
According to CENTCOM, the ISIS operatives were armed with an array of weapons, grenades, and explosive suicide belts. The military emphasised that no civilian casualties were reported as a result of the operation.
This raid comes on the heels of a significant U.S. action in Syria, where a senior leader of the Al-Qaeda-affiliated militant group Horas al-Din, known as “Guardians of Religion,” was killed. Abu Abdul Makki, who was responsible for overseeing terrorist operations from Syria, was eliminated in a “kinetic strike” by U.S. forces.

General Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM commander, underscored the ongoing commitment to counterterrorism efforts.
“CENTCOM remains committed to the enduring defeat of terrorists who threaten the United States, its allies and partners, and regional stability,” Kurilla stated.

He added, “ISIS remains a threat to the region, our allies, as well as our homeland. US CENTCOM, alongside our coalition and Iraqi partners, will continue to pursue these terrorists aggressively.”
