Jennifer Lopez made a striking appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on Friday, September 6, for the premiere of her latest film, “Unstoppable.”

The 55-year-old star, who produced the movie and played a supporting role, walked the red carpet solo, notably without her now-estranged husband, Ben Affleck, 53. Affleck’s absence fueled ongoing speculation about the couple’s recent split.

Lopez’s appearance at TIFF comes just weeks after she filed for divorce from Affleck on August 20, the second anniversary of their wedding ceremony in Georgia. The couple, who eloped in Las Vegas in July 2022, celebrated their nuptials with a lavish reception the following month. However, rumours of their separation have been circulating, especially after Affleck was a no-show at the premiere.

Dressed in a sparkling silver gown with black ties, Lopez stole the spotlight. Her outfit featured side cut-outs and high slits, highlighting her famous curves. Despite Affleck’s absence, his close friend and co-producer, Matt Damon, attended the event. Damon, who looked dapper in a grey suit, was accompanied by his wife, Luciana Barroso, and joined Lopez on the red carpet to promote the film.

“Unstoppable,” a sports drama based on the true story of Anthony Robles, a one-legged wrestler who won the 2011 college wrestling national championship, holds significant meaning for Lopez. According to a source, Lopez was “excited” to promote the film at TIFF, which represented an essential project for her. She portrays Robles’ mother in the movie directed by William Goldenberg, a longtime collaborator of Affleck.

The film marks another professional collaboration between Lopez and Affleck, who previously worked together on the films “Gigli” (2003) and “Jersey Girl” (2004). News of their involvement in “Unstoppable” broke in March 2023, and production wrapped in January 2024. However, by April 26, the couple had separated, with Lopez filing for divorce on the same date listed on her divorce petition.

Interestingly, their separation date coincided with Lopez filming another movie, “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” in New York, which she is also co-producing with Affleck. While Lopez was in New York, Affleck remained in Los Angeles, fueling the rumours of their strained relationship.

Despite their personal challenges, Affleck had previously expressed how much he enjoyed working with Lopez on “Unstoppable.” In an interview with CBS Sunday Mornings in March 2023, he spoke fondly of the experience, calling it a “joy” to work with his wife. Lopez, too, had been open to collaborating with Affleck on future projects, though those plans now seem uncertain given their separation.
