The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported Sunday that they identified “numerous suspicious aerial targets” crossing from Lebanon into Israeli airspace.
In response, the IDF launched multiple interceptors, successfully neutralizing the targets. A press release from the IDF indicated that one of the falls was near Kibbutz Ayelet HaShahar, following sirens heard in the upper Galilee.
The incident resulted in moderate injuries to an IDF officer and a soldier, both of whom were transported to a hospital for treatment. The families of the injured have been notified. Israel Fire Services are also working to extinguish a fire ignited during the attack.
The IDF clarified that false identifications triggered the sirens in Kiryat Shmona and Kfar Giladi areas.
Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, IDF Spokesperson, provided further details in a press briefing. He stated that IDF troops are stationed in multiple regions, including the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Judea, and Samaria, to thwart threats against Israel. In Gaza, the IDF is focused on identifying and neutralizing underground infrastructure, particularly in the Rafah area and the Philadelphi Corridor. Hagari reported that dozens of tunnels have been located, investigated, and neutralized, though not all are active.
In a related development, two Israeli citizens were killed and two others wounded in a stabbing attack in Holon on Sunday morning. A police officer neutralized the terrorist at the scene.
On Saturday, the IDF and the Israeli Securities Authority (ISA) responded to an alert about a terrorist cell in Tulkarm, West Bank. An aircraft eliminated the cell of five terrorists en route to carry out an attack. Later, a counter-terrorism operation in Tulkarm resulted in the deaths of four terrorists who had fired at Israeli forces. Troops seized large quantities of firearms, ammunition, and military vests, many sourced from Iran.
Hagari emphasized Iran’s role in arming and financing terrorist organizations across the Middle East, including smuggling explosives into Israeli territory. He highlighted the IDF and ISA’s efforts to thwart numerous attacks involving smuggled explosives.
This report follows the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, which resulted in 1,200 deaths and roughly 250 abductions. Hagari reaffirmed the IDF’s commitment to rescuing the 115 hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza, emphasizing the goal of returning both living and deceased hostages to their families.
In the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry reports over 39,000 Palestinian deaths and more than 90,000 injuries, although the figures do not distinguish between civilians and terrorists.
