A 29-year-old Irish woman is currently receiving specialized treatment at a burns unit in Seville, Spain, after a tragic accident during a friend’s wedding celebration in Nerja.
The woman’s dress caught fire from decorative candles while she was in the bathroom at a holiday rental apartment, causing her to suffer severe burns.
Guests found her semi-conscious and immediately called emergency services. The incident occurred late last Thursday night, following an after-party held at the famous Balcon de Europa viewpoint in Nerja.
The victim was initially rushed to a hospital in Malaga, where she reportedly underwent emergency surgery. She was later transferred to the Virgen del Rocio University Hospital in Seville, where she remains under the care of specialists.
Local reports indicate that the woman sustained significant burns to her legs and body, with medical staff stating her condition is still uncertain.
The Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland has confirmed they are aware of the case and are providing consular assistance. However, they declined to comment further, citing the privacy of consular matters.
