Formal recognition of Palestine is important as part of an acknowledgment that a two state solution is the way to bring about peace and stability in the region.
In recent weeks, Taoiseach Harris has emphasized the importance of formally recognizing Palestine, aligning with the belief that a two-state solution is pivotal for fostering peace and stability in the region.
The Taoiseach and Prime Minister Sanchez had previously met in Dublin last month specifically to address this issue. During that meeting, Mr Harris underscored that the moment for Ireland, Spain, and other European nations to recognize Palestinian statehood is drawing closer.
He reiterated Ireland’s intention to coordinate actions with Spain and other allies when the timing is deemed appropriate.
