The Irish Prime Minister, set to visit the White House on St. Patrick’s Day, faces calls from People Before Profit to cancel the trip, urging all TDs to do the same. Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald is also criticized for planning a U.S. visit on St. Patrick’s Day. The party points fingers at President Joe Biden, holding him responsible for the suffering of Palestinians.
Deputy Bríd Smith emphasised that Leo Varadkar should refrain from meeting Mr. Biden in the U.S., stating, “We’re saying: avoid Washington, skip the Shamrock exchange, and don’t engage with ‘genocide Joe’ on that day. Let’s distance ourselves from what is an important day for the Irish Diaspora worldwide.”
Ms. Smith added, “We’re not just calling on the Taoiseach to boycott the St. Patrick’s Day visit; we want all elected Dáil Éireann deputies to do the same. This includes the opposition leader, Mary Lou McDonald, who has expressed her intention to go. We disagree with this decision. Joe Biden is now widely known as the ‘killer’ or ‘genocide Joe’ around the world.”
