A cherished Irish priest, Fr Eddie Elliott, tragically died in Mexico after a fall from a ladder while carrying out roof repairs at his home in Actopan, Hidalgo.
Originally from Ringsend, Dublin, Fr. Eddie spent over 40 dedicated years in Mexico as a Divine Word Missionary.
Despite the distance, Fr. Eddie remained a beloved Ringsend figure known for his kindness, humour, and artistic talents. He was a respected priest and an accomplished artist and singer, leaving a lasting impact on his community.
Fr. Eddie’s love for animals was evident in his efforts to rehome over 30 dogs during his time in Mexico City. His compassion extended beyond human interactions, reflecting his caring nature towards all living beings.
A spokesperson for the family fondly recalls Fr Eddie as someone who saw the best in everyone touched many hearts, and maintained an active lifestyle, which included daily mountain walks with his pets and regular musical performances.
Fr Eddie is survived by his sister, May Pullen, brother-in-law, Jimmy Pullen, niece, Wendy Smyth, and a wide circle of friends and colleagues who deeply mourn his loss.
While Fr Eddie’s burial will take place in Mexico, a service of remembrance is planned at St Patrick’s Church in Ringsend, providing an opportunity for his community to gather, share memories, and celebrate the remarkable life of a man who exemplified kindness, talent, and dedication to others.
