Irish Police (Gardaí) step up armed patrols in Dublin after Christmas Eve restaurant shooting
Police in Dublin have increased visible patrols following a shooting at Browne’s Steakhouse in Blanchardstown on Christmas Eve.
A man in his 20s lost his life, and another in his 40s is being treated for gunshot wounds. The incident occurred at 8 pm while the restaurant was filled with people, including families, enjoying a Christmas Eve meal.
A government official expressed condolences: “Our thoughts go out to the affected families, and we stand in solidarity with the staff and customers.” Minister for Justice Helen McEntee condemned the attack, particularly emphasizing the disturbing nature of violence at a place where families had gathered.
In response to the tragedy, an incident room has been set up at Blanchardstown Garda Station, and a Senior Investigating Officer is leading the investigation. The Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation also assists, with a designated Garda Family Liaison Officer assigned to both families.
Addressing the circulation of videos depicting the incident on social media, the police urged the public not to share them further. They also cautioned against the spread of speculation and misinformation, emphasizing the need for accurate information.
Authorities are appealing to anyone with information about the incident to contact the police.
