TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi launched a scathing rebuke of the United States on Sunday, accusing former President Donald Trump of deceiving the American public and violating diplomatic norms after recent US military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
In a televised press conference in Tehran, Araghchi condemned the strikes as “criminal aggression” and said Trump had betrayed the very voters who supported his campaign pledge to end so-called “forever wars.”
“While President Trump was elected on a platform of putting an end to America’s costly involvement in forever wars in our part of the world, he has betrayed not only Iran by abusing our commitment to diplomacy, but also deceived his voters,” Araghchi said.
Describing the US as a “lawless bully,” Araghchi reiterated Iran’s demand for the United Nations Security Council to convene an emergency session and formally condemn Washington’s actions, calling the strikes a “flagrant breach of international law and UN Charter.”
The foreign minister warned of wider consequences if global powers fail to respond decisively, stating: “Silence will plunge the world into an unprecedented level of danger and chaos.”
Araghchi’s remarks come after a night of high-stakes escalation, in which the US targeted Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan—three of Iran’s key nuclear facilities. Tehran has since described the strikes as a declaration of war and promised retaliation.
