Indianapolis, IN – An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officer is currently held at the Marion County Jail and placed on administrative leave following allegations of official misconduct and harassment.
Officer Nicholas Cauley, 38, was arrested on July 18, 2025, after an investigation by IMPD’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) revealed two counts of official misconduct and one count of harassment against him.
Chief Chris Bailey addressed the situation, stating, “The trust our community places in us is built on accountability and integrity.
When any officer violates that trust, it’s our duty to act quickly and transparently. We are committed to working closely with the prosecutor to ensure this case is investigated appropriately.”

The case adds to a growing number of IMPD officers facing disciplinary actions this year.
In 2024, four officers were jailed and one dismissed amid calls from city councilors to revise rules that currently limit the police chief’s authority in disciplinary matters.
The investigation began on June 24 after Cauley’s ex-wife contacted the North District of IMPD with concerns about his conduct. Detectives found that despite multiple requests to cease contact, Cauley repeatedly reached out to her.
It is also alleged that Cauley, while on duty and operating a police vehicle, went to his ex-wife’s workplace and used his law enforcement access to check her license plate information.
Cauley, who has served with IMPD for nine years and was assigned to the North District, has had his police-issued equipment collected and his law enforcement powers suspended. He remains on administrative leave pending further review by Chief Bailey.
